Comments:

Subdued fruit on the front end accompanied by slightly bitter tannins. The finish is short without much complexity or depth. I picked this wine up on clearance, now I Know why.

From the Label:

Where goldmining settlers once propered, vines now flourish in the rolling hills that surround the town of Mudgee. The rich red soils, quartz subsoils and outstanding climate conditions that define the Mudgee wine district make it ideal for premium grape growing. The Hill of Gold vineyard and property have for nearly 30 years had an integral place within the history of the region. On the nose this wine displays lifted perfume and ginger spice aromas typical of Mudgee Shiraz with hints of plum, mocha and pepper. Sixteen months maturation in American and French oak has resulted in finely integrated fruit flavors and vanilla characters. The finish is rich and long with cinnamon cloves and brambly fruit notes promising much for extended bottle maturation.
